Investigation Continues The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is continuing to investigate the stabbing that occurred around 4 am this morning. The incident occurred on Queen Street West in between John Street and Huron Street.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is continuing to investigate the stabbing that occurred around 4 am this morning. The incident occurred on Queen Street West in between John Street and Huron Street.

The male victim remains in the Sault Area Hospital with a number of stab wounds to the upper body area. The injuries are non-life threatening. A knife has been seized.

The accused and victim are known to each other and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to assure the public that this is not a random act of violence involving unknown persons.

City Police arrested a 20-year old male suspect just after 6 am this. Officers from the Investigation Services Section are continuing the investigation into this incident to determine motive and to ensure that the appropriate charge are laid. Once the charges are determined an information will be prepared and the name of the accused will be released

Downtown Stabbing

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended in the downtown area around 4 am this morning in regards to a stabbing. A male victim is in the Sault Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Just after 6 am patrol officers arrested a 20-year-old male suspect who is in custody at the City Police Station. The suspect and accused are known to each other. Officers from Investigation Services have been called in and are currently working with patrol officers on this matter. Further details will be released later this morning, as this investigation is currently ongoing.


Youth Charged with Assault

A 17-year old youth will appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that the youth assaulted a male victim by punching them in the face several times and kicking them. The accused also threatened to further harm the victim at a later date. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon and the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of threatening and one count of breach of probation.

Breach of Release Document


A 17-year old will appear in bail court after being arrested yesterday afternoon in the downtown area. It is alleged that the accused had been consuming alcohol while on a release order not to consume alcohol. The youth allegedly failed to notify a change of address term as part of a release document as well. The youth as been charged with 2 counts of breach of a release document and one count of breach of probation.

Domestic Dispute

A 33-year old male was arrested last evening after City Police were called to a downtown residence in regards to a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the accused attended at his girlfriends address and got into a verbal argument with her. It is alleged that the accused then assaulted the victim by pulling her hair and hitting her in the face with a frozen steak. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and will appear in bail court this morning.

Motor Vehicle Collision

At 12:40 am this morning City Police attended at a single motor vehicle collision on Goulais Avenue at Chippewa Street. It is alleged that 24-year old Michel Weise of 10 Donna Drive lost control of a pickup truck he was driving northbound on Goulais Avenue and ended up in a ditch. Officers who attended at the scene noted that the accused showed signs of impairment. Mr. Weise has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He will appear in court on September 12th.

City Police received 5 reports of break and enters yesterday:

1) Early yesterday morning thieves broke into Propane Plus located at 60 Great Northern Road and took a small amount of change.

2) Sometime between noon and 2 pm on July 27th thieves broke into a garage to a home in the 100 block of Avon Avenue and stole 2 snow blowers.

3) Sometime overnight between July 27th and July 28th thieves broke into a home in the 400 block of Albert Street East. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

4) In the evening hours of July 27th thieves broke into a home in the 700 block of Queen Street East and stole a Sony Play Station and a number of games.

5) Last evening a homeowner in the 100 block of Pino Drive reported that the shed had been broken into and their garage entered during the daytime. A Honda generator was taken, along with a Makita saw, Craftsman trimmer and an air compressor. A vehicle had also been entered that had been in the garage.
