Robbery: detectives from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are requesting the public’s assistance with information regarding the following incident. On the 16th of July 2010 at approximately 12:15 a.m.

On the 16th of July 2010 at approximately 12:15 a.m., a 33 year old female was operating her motor vehicle on Market Street when she reports being pulled over by a male driving what she believed was an older model police type vehicle. As she approached the area of a small church on Market St. she observed a white car with all of the lights off parked and observed occupants in the vehicle.

The vehicle was described as an older model white police style car. She continued driving northbound on Market St. when she observed the motor vehicle proceed and drive directly behind her and follow her. She was approaching the large turn at East Side Rink (Litner Park) on Market St. when the white car that was traveling behind her activated lights from the dash described as red and blue lights.
A male suspect approached her driver's side asked her to step out of her car and produce her license and ownership. When the victim reached inside of her vehicle the male pulled the victim out of the car and a struggled ensued. The male grabbed the victim’s purse and fled. It is believed a second male was inside the vehicle. The victim was able to bite the suspect on the inside LEFT forearm, inflicting injury. She was also able to strike the suspect in the face. Please note the following descriptions:

Vehicle: White / Police-style older model – possible Ford Crown Victoria / no rear licence plate

Suspect 1: Male, Caucasian with tan complexion
Age - late thirties/early forties
Height – approximately six feet tall
Weight - 200-220lbs

Features – Short, clean cut, dark coloured hair, described as having a “a big head with a round face that did not appear proportionate to his body”
Clothing - all black clothing, short sleeved dress shirt with a collar and no insignia, wearing full length pants that were dark in colour. He also was wearing a utility style belt with unknown items affixed to it. He was wearing a watch on his left wrist and it had a silver band. He may have a possible injury from bite on inside LEFT forearm and possible facial injuries.

Please note: the Sault Ste. Marie Police service does NOT operate any white unmarked vehicles. All police cruisers are fully marked white Dodge Chargers, there are still 2 fully marked Ford Crown Victoria’s in the fleet with red and blue markings which are clearly visible. Plainclothes officers will identify themselves verbally and with both a Sault Ste. Marie Police services badge and photo identification card. Drivers and homeowners are reminded to keep doors locked and deny access to anyone if they are not satisfied the person has identified themselves properly. Should there ever be apprehension or confusion as to the identity of an officer, the public is welcome to contact the police service via telephone to verify and confirm that the person they are dealing with is a police officer.
