INVESTIGATION CONTINUES IN FATAL BOATING COLLISION (Lake Manitou, Manitoulin Island, Ont.) – Manitoulin OPP are continuing their investigation into a boating collision that claimed the life of a young Sudbury teenager.
INVESTIGATION CONTINUES IN FATAL BOATING COLLISION

(Lake Manitou, Manitoulin Island, Ont.) – Manitoulin OPP are continuing their investigation into a boating collision that claimed the life of a young Sudbury teenager. On Wednesday 12 July 2006 at around 8:00 pm Manitoulin OPP were advised of a serious boating collision, which occurred near Newby’s Bay on Lake Manitou 20 kms southwest of Little Current.

So far the investigation reveals that a 17 ft. fiberglass powerboat was under power and struck a second vessel, a 12 ft aluminum row boat on Lake Manitou resulting in a 17 year-old female youth from Sudbury receiving fatal injuries. The deceased youth has been identified as Justine MARTIN age 17 of Sudbury, Ontario. Manitoulin OPP Detachment with the assistance of the OPP Northeast region traffic and marine unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit are investigating.

The remainder of the details will not be released until the investigation is complete.

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP conducted several RIDE programs through out the weekend resulting in 345 vehicles being checked with two, 12 hours suspensions being issued and 1 Impaired charge laid.

While on general patrol Police also stopped several vehicles resulting in three (3) more charges.

Charged are the following: Denis Rufin MORISETT (45) of Elliot Lake with Driving with Over 80mgs.

Bradford Alexander MCGHEE (23) of Val Caron with Impaired Operation.

Anne Madeleine GAGNON (42) of Elliot Lake with Over 80mgs.

Michael Ray DAVIS (22) of Sudbury with Over 80mgs.

GAGNON and Davis are scheduled to appear in court on September 5th, 2006.
McGHEE is scheduled to appear in court on August 15th, 2006.

Truck Collides With Dirt Bike

Officers from Patrol Services are continuing their investigation into a motor vehicle collision that occurred last night shortly before 6:30 pm. Officers attended on Hill Road in Prince Township for the collision that involved a pickup truck and a dirt bike. The 16-year old driver of the dirt bike and the 15-year old passenger on the dirt bike were both taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The 32-year old male driver of the pickup truck was not harmed in the collision. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Update On Robbery On Second Line West

Previous Release From April 6 2006:

Officers from Investigation Services are following up on a robbery that occurred last night at a home in the 100 block of Second Line West. Just after 10 pm last night City Police received the complaint from a male occupant of the residence. It is alleged that two males entered the home, brandished a weapon and fled the home. The victim required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The two male suspects are described as follows:

1) one male was 5’10” tall, 180-190 lbs, wearing a black mask.

2) second male was wearing a two toned colored mask, was 5’5” tall and had a stocky build.

Update:

Yesterday afternoon officers from the Investigation Services Section, who have been working on this robbery, arrested two males in connection to the incident. It is alleged that the males entered the home of the victim, assaulted the victim and left the home with an undisclosed amount of money. The victim required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The two males will appear in bail court this morning:

1) 26-year old Anthony McDonald of North York has been charged with one count of robbery, one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of disguise with intent-face masked and one count of breach of probation.

2) 20-year old Andrew McDonald of Barrie has been charged with one count of robbery, one count of break and enter and commit an offence and one count of disguise with intent-face masked.

Stolen Credit Card

49-year old Joseph Martone of 659 Shafer Avenue was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of personation with intent, one count of uttering a forged document and one count of possession of a stolen credit card. It is alleged that on June 17th the accused purchased just under $300 dollars worth of groceries with a stolen credit card. It is alleged that that accused signed the credit card receipt in the name of the victim. The accused will appear in court on the 21st of August.

Motor Vehicle Collision

Officers from Traffic Services are investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred on the 13th of July just after 1:30 pm. The collision occurred on Pine Street just north of Wellington Street East. The collision involved a blue car and a brown van. There were no injuries in the collision. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 ext. 382.

Break & Enters

City Police received a number of reports of break and enters yesterday.

1) Yesterday afternoon a homeowner in the 300 block of Korah Road reported that their home had been entered sometime between 12 noon and 3 pm. Jewellery and some old coins were taken.

2) A garage in the 1200 block of Leigh’s Bay Road was entered overnight between the 12th and 13th of July. Thieves stole a compressor and air nailers.

3) A residence on Terry Fox Place was entered last evening sometime between 6 pm and 10 pm. Items taken include a number of DVD’s-both movies and music, as well as a small-undisclosed amount of money.

4) A residence in the 100 block of Cambridge Place was entered yesterday between 3 pm and 1:30 am this morning. Thieves made off with a DVD player and sound system with speakers.

5) Around 4:30 am this morning thieves broke into The Attendance Centre on Queen Street East and nothing was taken.
