Charges Laid in Break and Enter

A joint investigation between the Sault Ste Marie Police Service and the Sault Ste Marie Detachment of Ontario Provincial Police has resulted in the arrest of one male and the recovery of a substantial amount of equipment. It is alleged that between Thursday July 12th and Friday July 13th two males broke into the Sault Search and Rescue building located on Industrial Court.

At approx. 2:00 am this morning the two accused were stopped by the O.P.P. north of the city for a Highway Traffic Act infraction. Upon investigating the driver it was learned that he was wanted by the Sault Ste Marie Police Service for two committal warrants. The driver, Samuel Stevens was arrested for the warrants and the vehicle and trailer were impounded. The second male was released at that time.

Upon the O.P.P. officer attending at the city police station it was learned that a break and enter had occurred at the Sault Search and Rescue building and a trailer matching the description of the one impounded had been reported stolen.

As a result Samuel James Stevens, age 24, of no fixed address was arrested and is charged with one count of break and enter, one count of possession of housebreaking tools and four counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The accused is presently in custody awaiting a hearing before a justice. A warrant is being issued for the arrest of the second male.

The equipment stolen from the break and enter included two cargo trailers, two snow machines, two all terrain vehicles, an Argo and a rescue toboggan. All the property recovered belonged to the Sault Search and Rescue.


City police dealt with the following two impaired drivers last night:

1) 40 year-old Christine Pierce of 50 Pozzebon Crescent was arrested on the 12th of July at around 4:40 pm on Farewell Terrace and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that around 4:10 pm witnesses observed the accused driving her blue ford tempo on Bitonti Crescent erratically. The driver swerved into a driveway, attempted to back out and almost struck a pedestrian that was walking in that area. Police were called and located the vehicle on Farewell Terrace. It is alleged that the accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol. She is to appear in court on the 20th of August.

2) 53 year-old Angelika Jackson of 26 Lake Promenade Avenue in Toronto Ontario was arrested at 2:30 am on the 13th of July on Bay Street and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. City police received several calls of an erratic driver in the area of Bay Street. When officers attended on Bay Street to check for the vehicle they observed a grey mazda westbound on Bay Street going the wrong way and heading towards their cruiser. Officers were able to get the vehicle to pull over into the Station Mall Parking lot. It is alleged that when officers checked the driver they found her to be under the influence of alcohol. She is to appear in court on the 20th of August.

Shoplifting from Sears

18 year-old Jessica Desmond of #1-32 Blucher Street was arrested at the Sears Store in the Station Mall on the 12th of July at 8:22 pm and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Sears store and stole a cell phone valued at $149.00. She was apprehended by store security and police were called. She is to appear in court on the 13th of August.

Two females were arrested on outstanding warrants yesterday:

1) a 31 year-old female was arrested on the 12th of July just before 8 pm and charged with one count of fail to appear court from the 4th of July on a mischief and assault charge relating to a domestic incident involving her ex-boyfriend on the 7th of May. She is to appear in court on the 20th of August.

2) A 32 year-old female was arrested at the city police station and charged with one count of fail to appear court on the 27th of June on a criminal harassment charge also relating to a domestic incident from the 21st of September 2006.
