Fatal Snowmobile Accident Victim Identified: The victim was identified as 35 year-old Danny Venn of 800 Third Line East, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. On the 28th of January Mr.
Fatal Snowmobile Accident Victim Identified:

The victim was identified as 35 year-old Danny Venn of 800 Third Line East, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

On the 28th of January Mr. Venn had been out riding on the Ontario Federation Snowmobile Club trail with approximately eleven other riders and was the lead snowmachine. The group started out at the Old Goulais Bay Road area between 6:30 – 7 pm and were riding to the Heyden area. At approximately 7 pm a Trail Groomer in the process of grooming the trails approximately 500 meters from Old Goulais Bay Road, observed fresh snowmachine tracks leaving the groomed trail in a curved area and going over the embankment. He then found the unconscious victim and his overturned snowmachine approximately 25 feet down a ravine below the embankment. Emergency Personnel attended on scene and the victim was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A post mortem is scheduled for this morning to determine the cause of death.

Officers with the Sault Ste Marie Police Traffic Services, Forensic and Investigation Services and the Coroner’s office continue to investigate the accident. At this time alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident.

Male Arrested after Going Through Vehicles on Jean Avenue:

20 year-old Kevin Robinson of 19 Williams Street was arrested around 3 am this morning on Jean Avenue and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of breach of a release document and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 30th of January around 2:45 am the accused entered a vehicle in the driveway of a residence in the 100 block of Jean Avenue and stole three passports that were inside. City police were checking the area after receiving a call regarding a male going through vehicles on Jean Street and when they approached the accused he was observed throwing the passports to the ground.
At the time of the incident, the accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was on undertaking and probation order with conditions that he abstain from the consumption of alcohol and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Male Arrested for Mischief at Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre:


29 year-old Sean Seguin currently in custody at the Algoma Remand and Treatment Centre was arrested by city police there yesterday morning at 11:01 am and charged with one count of mischief. It is alleged that on the 28th of January at 6: 55 pm the accused while in custody at the Centre, tampered with a sprinkler head causing it to activate and dispense a large amount of water throughout his cell and cell block area.

Domestic Related Arrest:

A 29 year-old male was arrested on the 29th of January at 2:45 pm on Trunk Road and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 29th of January at approximately 2:30 pm the accused got into a verbal argument with his common law partner at her east end residence and when she attempted to leave he grabbed a hold of her. She was able to break free and ran outside the residence where the accused chased her, punched her in the face and pushed her to the ground. Police received two calls regarding the domestic and when they were arriving in the area, the accused attempted to run away but was quickly apprehended. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assault. The accused was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with conditions of a probation order at the time of the offence.

Male Shoplifter Arrested:

18 year-old Glen Deschenes of 34 Grosvenor Avenue was arrested on the 29th of January at 2:17 pm at Zellers on Northern Avenue and charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00. It is alleged that on the 29th of January just before 2 pm the accused attended at the store and stole a pair of Sony headphones and an X Box 360 controller. He was apprehended by store security and held for police. He is to appear in court on the 3rd of March.

Property Crimes:

Thefts:


• A vehicle on Manitou Drive was entered at around 2:28 am this morning. The owner observed two males in the vehicle and called police. The males fled on foot prior to police arrival. A passport, a Satellite Radio and a case full of CD’s were reported stolen.
• Licence plates were stolen off a vehicle that was parked at the Pine Street Apartment complex yesterday.
• A vehicle on Grosvenor Avenue was entered and identification and some change were stolen.

Mischief Report:

Two tires of a vehicle were slashed in the parking lot of Sault College sometime yesterday.
