Break and Enters: A tug boat located at Purvis Marine on Pim Street was entered sometime during the previous night. It was not clear what was taken at the time.

A tug boat located at Purvis Marine on Pim Street was entered sometime during the previous night. It was not clear what was taken at the time.

A residence in the 300 block of Cathcart Street was reported broken into sometime yesterday afternoon. Jewelry and some cash were stolen.

There was an attempted break and enter to a residence in the 200 block of John Street sometime during the previous evening.

Mischief:

A residence on White Oak Drive and a residence on Tadcaster Place were both egged just prior to and after 2:00 a.m. this morning.

Theft:

A vehicle parked on Pleasant Drive was entered in the early morning hours and a briefcase was stolen.


Traffic Accidents Resulting in Charges:

77-year-old Ronald Joseph Dunn of 31 London Street was involved in a motor vehicle collision on the 28th of January 2010 at 12:22 p.m. on Elgin Street at Albert Street East. It is alleged that the accused was driving his passenger van east on Elgin Street but failed to stop for a red light at Albert Street East. The accused subsequently struck a car that had entered the intersection south bound from Albert Street East on a green light. The car lost control and struck a utility pole that was situated on the south east corner of that intersection. The 49-year-old driver of the car was taken to hospital via ambulance where he was treated for what was believed at the time to be minor non life threatening injuries. Mr. Dunn also received at the time which was believed to be minor non life threatening injuries that did not require medical attention. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and had to be towed from the scene. The accused was issued with a provincial offence act summons for failing to stop for a red light.

63-year-old Rita Gionette of 83 Elliot Road was involved in a single motor vehicle collision on the 28th of January 2010 at 2:22 p.m. on Farewell Terrace near Douglas Avenue. It is alleged that the accused was driving north bound on Farwell Terrace when she momentarily diverted her attention from the roadway resulting in the vehicle striking a utility pole. Mrs. Gionette received what was at the time believed to be minimal non life threatening injuries that did not require medical attention. Her vehicle as well as the P.U.C. pole was severely damaged. She was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

There have been numerous accidents reported to both police and the collision reporting center over the past couple of days reflecting the recent change in weather patterns. Driving conditions can change dramatically with changes in temperature and precipitation. These changes can affect vehicle response and driving ability depending on the condition of the roadway and visibility. Therefore, drivers are reminded to utilize extra caution and operate their vehicles according the prevailing and ever changing road/weather conditions.

Two Persons For Bail Court:

27-year-old Steven Keith Lacoursiere of 235 Brian Avenue was arrested on the 28th of January 2010 at 5:55 a.m. subsequent to loud noise complaints. It is alleged that police had been called to the accused residence on a second occasion regarding noise after already once cautioning the accused. The accused however identified himself by a different name. Officers were able to uncover the deception and further found the accused to be bound by a condition of a recognizance to abstain absolutely from the consumption of alcohol. The accused had been drinking. As a result, the accused was arrested and charged for breach of recognizance and obstruct police.

30-year-old Tara Siobhan McKinley of 7 Lake Avenue in Prince Township was arrested on the 28th of January 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Walmart (446 Great Northern Road) for fraud. It is alleged that on that day the accused returned an item (appliance valued at over $300.00) for which she had not paid and secured an in-store credit.
The accused left but returned a short time later to use the credit while police were on scene. She identified herself falsely to officers who again were able to detect the deception. The accused was found to have three outstanding warrants in her name. Subsequently, the accused was arrested and charged for fraud and obstruct police while the outstanding warrants were executed.

Public Mischief Laid Following Accident:

19-year-old Amber Janet Schopp of 84 Arden Street was arrested on the 28th of January 2010 at 8:17 p.m. at the Sault Ste. Marie Police services building following an investigation into a single motor vehicle collision near the 400 block of Connaught Avenue. It is alleged that the accused was driving a car on Connaught Avenue sometime during that morning and struck a P.U.C. pole off the roadway. She left the vehicle and the scene without notifying police. The accused was later questioned by police but denied any involvement. Further investigation revealed otherwise and the accused was subsequently arrested and charged criminally with public mischief and fail to remain at the scene of an accident. She was additionally given a summons under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario for failing to report damage. She is scheduled to attend court on the 1st of March 2010.

Assaults:

50-year-old Judy Lynn Crack of 1329 Peoples Road was arrested on the 28th of January 2010 at 9:20 p.m. at her residence for assault. It is alleged that the accused had earlier assaulted both a 56-year-old male and a 52-year-old female known to her at that location. She was charged with assault x 2 and given a court date of the 1st of March 2010. The victims did not require medical attention at the time.

A 32-year-old female who resides in the central area of the city was arrested on the 28th of January 2010 at 8:20 p.m. at her residence for assault. It is alleged that the accused earlier had assaulted her 16-year-old son by slapping him and throwing a beer bottle at him. She was arrested and charged for assault and later released with a court date of the 1st of March 2010. The victim did not require medical attention at the time. Alcohol was a factor regarding the accused.

Young Offender Breach of Probation:

A 15-year-old male young offender who resides in the west end of the city was charged for three breaches of his probation. It is alleged that the accused had returned to his residence on the 29th of January 2010 in an intoxicated state. Police was contacted as the accused was on probation with several conditions including not to consume alcohol, a curfew (to be in his residence between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.), and to keep the peace and be of good behavior. The accused was subsequently charged with breach of probation x 3 and given a court date of the 2nd of March 2010.
