MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION ON TRUNK ROAD SENDS 2 TO HOSPITAL-ONE DRIVER IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Around 8 am this morning the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Fire Services and Sault Ambulance Services attended in the 500 block of Trunk Road for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. Officers from Traffic Services and Identification Services also attended at the scene. The collision resulted in Trunk Road being closed for a three-hour period between Shannon Road and Boundary Road.

A white Honda car, operated by 20-year old Jason Long of 30 Grace Street, was travelling eastbound on Trunk Road. A black Geo Tracker operated by 49-year old Bradford Mooney of 440 Chambers was travelling westbound on Trunk Road. It is alleged that the Mooney vehicle turned left to go into a local business and the two vehicles collided. The Tracker then hit a PUC pole before stopping.
Both drivers were taken to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance. Mr. Long received non-life threatening injuries. Mr Mooney is listed as being in critical condition. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Both vehicles were demolished in the collision.
Traffic Services is continuing their investigation into this collision. Any witnesses are asked to contact Traffic Services at 949-6300 ext. 382.


Breach of a Release Order

24-year old Terence Saunders of 110 Wilding Avenue will appear in bail court this morning. Just after 9 pm last night patrol officers checked the stopped the accused at Wallace Terrace and Farwell Terrace. A police query revealed that the accused was on a release order with a curfew to be in his residence between 9 pm and 7 am unless with a surety or for employment purposes. The accused was alone at the time. The accused has been charged with one count of breach of a release order.

Breach of Probation

A 15-year old youth was arrested just after 11 pm last night. Officers stopped the accused who was walking on Lennox Street. A police query of the accused revealed that the youth was on probation with a curfew of 9 pm to 7 am. The youth was charged with one count of breach of probation and will appear in court on February 28th.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

Last evening in a very short time frame City Police investigated two motor vehicle collisions with injuries. Both collisions are still under investigation. At this time no charges have been laid pending the conclusion of the investigations.

At 4:49 pm City Police, Fire Services and Sault Ambulance Services attended at Wellington Street East and North Street for a two vehicle motor collision. A car operated by James Bedell of 614 MacDonald Avenue was traveling northbound on Gore Street and turned west onto Wellington Street West. A car operated by Dean Greenwood of 151 Church Street was traveling southbound on North Street. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. Personnel from Fire Services had to extricate Mr. Greenwood, who was then taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The Greenwood vehicle was demolished and the Bedell vehicle received moderate damage.

At 5:13 pm last night personnel from all three 9-1-1 emergency services responded to another 2 vehicle motor collision at Wellington Street East and Francis Street. A pickup truck operated by Glen Corbett of Echo Bay was traveling westbound on Wellington Street East. A car operated by Benny Scullino of Sault Ste. Marie was traveling southbound on Francis Street. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. Mr. Scullino and his passenger, Lucie Scullino, were both taken to the Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
