Update to Savoy’s Jewellers Robbery
On the 12th of January, Investigation Services officers conducted a search warrant at 183 Albert Street East, Unit # 4. During the search, officers recovered a handgun and blank ammunition believed to have been used in the Savoy’s Jewellers robbery on the 11th of January. Officers found that it was a blank firing gun and was not capable of firing a projectile.
The accused, Michael Dustin BURGESS remains in custody charged with one count of robbery with a weapon and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. He is scheduled for a bail hearing on Wednesday the 18th of January. The investigation is ongoing.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to advise the public that the offense of robbery includes the use of an imitation handgun.
Domestic Related Arrest
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 34 year-old female on the 12th of January at 11:15 am at her residence and charged her with two counts of breach of probation and four counts of breach of a recognizance order. It is alleged that on the 11th of January at approximately 6:45 pm the accused called her ex-girlfriend on the phone and at the time she was on numerous release document orders with conditions that she not communicate directly or indirectly with her, not to molest, harass, or physically interfere with her, due to past domestic related charges. She is to appear in bail court this morning.
Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested Preston McLeod, 28, of #40-1547 Trunk Road yesterday afternoon on an outstanding warrant at his place of residence. He was charged with on count of breach of recognizance for allegedly failing to report to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service from November of 2011 to January 2012 as required by conditions of his bail release order. He is to appear in bail court this morning.
Male Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 24 year-old Cory Green of 51 Smale Avenue on an outstanding warrant at his residence yesterday afternoon and charged him with one count of fail to appear court. It is alleged that he failed to appear court on the 18th of June in relation to an assault charge. He is to appear in court on the 6th of February.
Break and Enter Reports
- A residence on Cedar Street was entered yesterday afternoon. A 30 inch television was reported taken.
- A residence on Bush Street was entered last night. Jewellery was reported taken.
