Appeal For Witnessess

Yesterday afternoon just after 4 pm officers from Patrol Services attended at McNabb Street and Pine Street for a motor vehicle collision that sent one person to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A grey pickup truck operated by a 43-year old male was traveling eastbound on McNabb Street. A green car operated by a 66-year old female was traveling westbound on McNabb Street. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 and ask for Constable Kovacs

Two persons will appear in bail court this morning:

1) Yesterday afternoon officers from the Fraud Unit arrested and charged 33-year old Vera Shaganash of 74 Atwater Street with five counts of attempt fraud. It is alleged that on the 9th of February the accused had an acquaintance attempted to cash five counterfeit money orders at three banking locations. The person who was attempting the cash the money orders for Shaganash was not aware that the cheques were counterfeit until a banking institution advised they were counterfeit. It is alleged that the accused knew the cheques were counterfeit. None of the cheques were cashed and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was notified and commenced an investigation.

2) A 51-year old male was arrested last evening by officers from Investigation Services and charged with two counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and one count of incest. It is alleged that between January of 1980 and December of 1994 the accused sexually assaulted a female relative. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
