City police would like to notify the residents of Prince Township that on Monday February 22nd, the Prince Township Fire Department will be going door to door to check smoke detectors. Prince Township residents and the general public are reminded to make sure that all their smoke and fire detectors are working properly. Battery operated units should have fresh batteries installed.
Motorists driving on Second Line W. in Prince Township are asked to watch for Fire Department vehicles parked on the side of the road.

Two males to appear in bail court

Yesterday evening city police attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and arrested Trevor Seaton, age 24, on a charge of taking a motor vehicle without consent. It is alleged that on January 24th 2010, the accused was involved in a motor vehicle collision. The vehicle he was driving was taken from a person known to him but without the owner’s permission. At the time of his arrest Mr. Seaton was in custody on other unrelated matters.

Yesterday afternoon city police executed a drug search warrant at a residence on Queen St. W. As a result of the search police arrested Steven Plastino, age 40, of 664 Queen St. W. It is alleged that Mr. Plastino was growing 107 marihuana plants. Police also located approx. 25 grams of marihuana at the residence. The estimated value of the drugs seized is $ 107,500.00. Steven Plastino is charged with one count of possession of a substance, one count of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of production of a substance.

Two males arrested for assault

At approx. 12:10 am this morning city police were called to the area of the Blockbuster Video, on McNabb St regarding an assault. Upon arrival city police arrested two males. It is alleged that the two accused assaulted a male known to them, by punching and kicking the victim to the head and face area. Vitim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention. Ryan Lund, age 19, of 23 Parkshore Dr. and Dustin Gibb, age 19, of 38 Silverbirch Dr. are each charged with one count of assault. They will be appearing in court on March 22.

Male charged with possession of stolen property

Yesterday afternoon city police arrested 29-year-old Robert Phillips, of 31 Albion St. on a charge of possession of stolen property. It is alleged that the accused had in his possession a set of Ontario licence plates that were reported stolen in October 2009. Mr. Phillips will be appearing in court on March 22.

Male arrested for impaired driving, assault police and mischief

Yesterday evening city police were called to attend on North Eden regarding a vehicle in the ditch. At approx. 11:30 pm police arrived at the location and arrested the male driver of the vehicle. It is that the accused was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. It is further alleged that while at the police station the accused caused mischief to the prisoner’s cell area by flooding it and that he also assaulted a police officer by spitting on her. Jacob Vachon, age 20, of 1340 Carpin Beach Rd. is charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of drive over 80mgs, one count of mischief and one count of assault police. He will be appearing in court on March 29.

Break and enter

A residence in the 100 block of Cambridge Pl was broken into yesterday. Electronic were stolen.
A residence in the 100 block of Elmwood Ave was entered. Electronics and a guitar were stolen.
An attempted break and enter was reported at approx. 4:30 this morning at the Peking Palace Restaurant- 313 Wellington St. W. Anyone that may have seen any suspicious persons or activities in the area are asked to contact either Crime Stoppers at 1-800- 222-TIPS or the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Detective office.

Mischief
A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Brock St was damaged yesterday.
