Note to Public planning on celebrating the arrival of the New Year:

If you are planning on going out tonight and celebrating the arrival of the New Year please remember that the Sault Ste Marie Police Service will be out there with you, in the form of the R.I.D.E. Program.
Make sure you don’t start the year off on a sour note – DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE. If you are going out and find that you’ve had too much to drink take public transit, call for a taxi or call a friend to take you home.

The Sault Ste Marie Transit advises that the last bus will be leaving the Dennis St. terminal at 11:45 pm.
There will not be any bus service on New Year’s Day.

Taxi companies advise that they will be extremely busy on New Year’s Eve and into New Year’s Day. It is estimated that there will be approximately 45 taxis responding to over one thousand calls in Sault Ste Marie for the peak hours. It is recommended that you have a call back number (cell phone?) for the taxi company to call you back when you ride has been dispatched.
An average cross town fare will cost between $ 30.00 and $ 40.00.
Getting arrested for impaired driving will cost you a lot more.

The Community Service Office will be closed on Monday January 3rd.

From all the staff of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service please have a safe and Happy New Year.
