At approximately 8:45 pm on the 20th of December members of the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which is comprised of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, the RCMP and the OPP North East Region, and members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Core Unit, executed a search warrant at #3-305 Huron Street. During the course of the search officers located 27.09 grams of cocaine, 17.2 grams of cannabis marihuana, and a small amount of cannabis resin, along with packaging materials, a large amount of cash and a digital scale. The estimated street value of the total drugs seized is $4,238.00. As a result police arrested and charged the following four persons:
1) 48 year-old Paul Wilson of #3-305 Huron Street was charged with one count possession of a controlled drug or substance, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and two counts of breach of probation for not keeping the peace and being of good behaviour. He is to appear in bail court this morning.
2) 18 year-old Natasha Baxter of #1-689 Wellington Street West has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She is to appear in court on the 28th of January 2008.
3) 19 year-old Brittney Westbrook of 226 Turner Avenue has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. She is to appear in court on the 28th of January 2008.
4) 18 year-old Tara Stiber of 702 Wellington Street West has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. She was found in possession of a knife that opened with centrifugal force when she was arrested. She is to appear in court on the 28th of January.

Possession

23 year-old Nelson Alves of 19 Silverdale Avenue was arrested on the 21st of December at approximately 12:59 pm on Wellington Street East and charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a weapon in a vehicle. It is alleged that on the 21st of December the accused was stopped and checked at the RIDE Program on Wellington Street East and at the time officers located 23.8 grams of marihuana, digital scales, halogen bulbs, rapid plant rooting, packaging materials, a glass pipe with a small amount of marihuana residue inside, a stolen shotgun and shotgun and rifle ammunition inside the vehicle. At the time the accused was not authorized to possess the firearm. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Five Counts of Breach

A 35 year-old male was arrested on the 21st of December at 3:28 am at a west end residence and charged with five counts of breach of probation as a result of a domestic related incident. It is alleged that the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s residence and a verbal argument ensued. At the time of the incident the accused was on conditions not to communicate with the ex-girlfriend, to remain away form her residence, not to harass, molest or annoy her, and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The accused was also found in possession of beer and is on conditions not to possess any alcohol. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Shop with a Cop

The Sault Ste Marie Ontario “Shop with a Cop” will be held Saturday the 22nd of December at 8 am. The program was established to build positive relationships between law enforcement officers and the children of the community.

This year Law Enforcement Officers involved will be from the Sault Ste Marie Police Services, Ontario Provincial Police, Ministry of Natural Resources, US Border Patrol and the International Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #115 Sault Ste. Marie. These members will be taking the selected children shopping at the Sault Ste. Marie Wal-Mart located at 446 Great Northern Road and then to the Best Western at 229 Great Northern Road for hot chocolate and gift wrapping.

Children are recommended for participation in the program by police service members, school employees, social agencies and church groups. Our criteria is the child between the age of six and eleven and who has a social or economic need.
