Sault Ste. Marie Police say a crash that sent two to hospital Friday was caused by a medical episode the driver was having.

Police responded to a call Friday afternoon of a single vehicle collision that took place in the area of Farwell Terrace and Raymond Street.

During investigation, officers say they learned the driver of the vehicle, a 67-year-old man, was in medical distress prior to the collision.

As a result of the collision the driver and passenger, a 38-year-old woman, were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The man was later pronounced deceased.

All roadways in the area have been reopened and traffic is moving normally.

The investigation is ongoing.
