Possession & Theft Under $5,000

Yesterday evening city police arrested William MacDonald, age 46, of 418 Albert St.W. and Jennifer Terhorst, age 33, of no fixed abode and charged each with one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of theft over $ 5,000 and one count of possession of a controlled substance. It is alleged that at approx. 7:30 pm last night the two accused were seen in a vehicle on Gore St., purchasing drugs. After the transaction the accused drove off and were stopped by police. Officers arrested the two accused, after locating a small quantity of marihuana in the vehicle. It was also discovered that the vehicle the accused were in, a white Chev. van had been reported stolen in Thunder Bay. Both accused will be appearing in bail court today.

Two Arrested in Stolen Vehicle

At approx. 1:10 am this morning officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested Ryan Chiarello, age 21, of 119 Salisbury Ave and a 16-year-old youth. It is alleged that the two accused were on Black Rd in a stolen 2004 Ford pick up truck when police attempted to stop the vehicle. The accused had initially attempted to flee from police but were eventually stopped. Mr. Chiarello is charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of fleeing from police the youth is charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of undertaking- by breaching his curfew. Both accused will be appearing in bail court today.

Domestic Assault

At approx. 10:15 pm last night city police officers attended at a west end address regarding a domestic assault. Upon arrival officers were informed that the male victim had been assaulted by his ex-girlfriend. It is alleged that the accused, a 22 year old female punched and scratched the victim’s neck. The accused is charged with one count of assault and will be appearing in court on Sept 10th. The victim did not require medical attention.

Possession of Stolen Golf Clubs

At approx. 12:00 pm yesterday city police arrested 25-year-old Darrell Saunders of 635 Wellington St.E. Apt 5 and charged him with one count of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that on July 17th the accused was in possession of a set of golf clubs that had been stolen from a break and enter on Cathcart St.
Mr. Saunders will be appearing in court on Sept 10th.

Man Arrested at Canada Customs

Yesterday morning the Sault Ste Marie Police Service attended at Canada Customs regarding a male that had been arrested for outstanding warrants. Pascal Houle, age 34, of 898 Highway 17 North had been arrested for warrants issued in 2004. It is alleged that in Sept 2004 the accused attended at Wal-Mart, on two occasions and received refunds for merchandises that he did not purchase at that store. Mr. Houle is charged with two counts of fraud under $ 5,000 and one count of breach of probation. He will be appearing in court on Sept 10th.

City police are investigating one break and enter and one attempted break-in.

At approx. 1:50 am this morning police were called to the Subway Shop at 153 Great Northern Rd. regarding the alarm. Upon arrival it was discovered that the premises had been broken into. A small amount of cash was taken. An attempted entry was made to a residence in the 200 block of Simpson St.

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service received three reports of thefts.

A vehicle parked in the 700 block of Queen St.E. was broken into and stereo equipment was stolen. Two reports were received of purses being stolen. One was from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Oakland Ave. and another was stolen from a grocery cart at a grocery store. Please do not leave purses in vehicles or shopping carts.
