The Sault Ste Marie Police Service has issued a warrant for the arrest of Paul Whalen, age 19,of No Fixed Address. Mr. Whalen is wanted for the following offences:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – 4 counts
Possession of A weapon Obtained by Crime – 4 counts
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – 5 counts
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle – 5 counts
Possession of a Prohibited Firearm – 1 count
Careless Storage of Firearm – 5 counts
Breach of Probation – 13 counts

Paul Whalen is described as: Male, white, 29 year of age, 5’9”, 160 lbs, medium build, shaved head and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Whalen is asked to contact the City Police at

Non-Custodial Parent Abducts Child

On August 16, City Police received a complaint of abduction by the non-custodial parent of a five-year-old boy.

It is alleged that the accused Melissa Jones, age 21, of Moonbeam, Ontario attended in Sault Ste. Marie to visit with her son and subsequently abducted him.

The custodial parents gave the accused permission to visit and have the child stay at a Sault Ste. Marie address with the accused.

On Wednesday Aug 16 the accused took the child and left the city without permission.

City Police were then contacted and a warrant was issued for the accused.

On Thursday Aug 18 City Police attended in Timmins, Ontario and arrested and charged the accused with abduction.

She will be appearing in bail court today at 10 a.m.

The child was returned unharmed to the custodial parents.

Driving While Suspended

Yesterday at approximately 5:30 p.m. City Police stopped a vehicle on Conmee Avenue in regards to a traffic stop.

Investigation by the officers resulted in the driver being arrested and charged with drive while prohibited.

It is alleged that the driver, Daniel Arthur Brochu, age 31, of 145 Conmee Avenue had been previously served a notice of suspension and was now driving a motor vehicle.

As a result City Police charged Daniel Brochu with drive while suspended (Criminal Code).

The offence of driving while prohibited – under the Criminal Code, carries an automatic 45-day impound on the vehicle.

Mr. Brochu will be appearing in court on Monday September 25 at 9 a.m.

Break & Enters

City Police are investigating two reports of break and enter.

One break-in was reported to a residence in the 100 block of Wilding Avenue.

Culprit(s) stole a 32-inch colour television from the home.

No suspects at this time.

The second was reported to a home in the 600 block of Sherbourne Avenue.

Neighbours observed three males at this residence.

Two of the suspects are described as:

1. male, white, 17-18 years of age, 180 pounds, black goatee and long black hair in a ponytail. Wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt.

2. male, white, 17-18 years of age, 180 pounds, short black scruffy hair. Wearing a black leather vest.

3. No description on the third person.

It is not known at this time what was stolen.

Anyone with information on these suspects is asked to call the City Police or Crimestoppers.

Domestic Situation

At approx. 5:40 PM yesterday City Police were called to an east end residence in regards to a domestic situation where a male was breaching a release order. Upon arrival of the police a 37-year-old-male was arrested and charged with three counts of Breach of Recognizance. The accused will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.
