Kids Suspected Involving Fire Last night at approx. 10:45 PM the Sault Ste Marie Fire Dept. was sent to Cardinal Leger School in regards to a fire.

Last night at approx. 10:45 PM the Sault Ste Marie Fire Dept. was sent to Cardinal Leger School in regards to a fire. Upon arrival firefighters discovered that a fire had been started near one of the side doors of the school. It appears that the fire was deliberately set and City Police are treating this incident as arson. It is suspected that kids were seen in this area prior to the fire call being received. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Sault Ste Marie Police or Crimestoppers. The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is very concerned about the number of fire calls received where it appears that person(s) deliberately set fires. The offence, Arson, carries a jail term of up to 14 years in jail. Arson is defined in the Criminal Code as: Every person who intentionally or recklessly causes damage by fire or explosion to property, whether or not that person owns the property, is guilty of an indictable offence.

Break and Enter

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is investigating one Break and Enter from the past 24 hours. A residence in the 100 block of Wilcox Ave was broken into and a bicycle was stolen.

Theft from Office

City Police are also investigating another theft from an office. In this incident a youth entered the Pathways Retirement Residence and stole an unknown amount of money from an office desk. The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, and approx. 15 years of age, with short blonde hair. Wearing a light blue shirt and blue jeans.


There were two incidents of mischief reported to the City Police yesterday.

1.The Algoma District School Board offices located at 644 Albert St.E. reported damage done to the fiber optics leading into the building.

2.A vehicle parked in the 100 block of Terry Fox Pl. was keyed.
