Queen Street between Church Street and Pim Street is temporarily closed off due to a vehicle collision. Drivers are being asked to use an alternate route to their destination this morning.
City Police have arrested 38 year old Derek Mark Bethley of Toronto this morning after a short pursuit which resulted in a single motor vehicle collision. At 5:30 this morning on East Street, officers attempted to stop a 93 Dodge Spirit which was reported stolen out of Toronto. When the driver failed to stop for police a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The pursuit remained in the downtown area of the city and concluded minutes after starting when the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to make a left hand turn from Pim Street onto Queen Street. The vehicle struck a post directly in from of the East Gate Bar. The driver Derek Bethley suffered non-life threatening injuries and has been charged with 1 count of dangerous driving and 1 count of possession of stolen property. He will be appearing in bail court this morning. The vehicle in this incident has extensive damage to the front end.

Ketola Located

City Police along with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police and the Anishinabeck Police Service did locate and arrest 23 year old Myles Jordan Ketola. Ketola who was wanted on a warrant for an armed robbery that occurred at the Cambrian Mall on the 7th of August was located at 129 Eagle Drive in Garden River. Ketola was arrested without incident and charged with 1 count of robbery will be appearing in bail court this morning.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to thank members of the public, the officers from the Ontario Provincial Police and the Anishinabeck Police Service for their assistance in locating Ketola.

Two Domestic Incidents

1) A 45 year old male has been arrested in a domestic related incident. It is believed that the accused attended at his ex-girlfriends west end residence just after 11:00pm last night and assaulted her by punching her in the mouth. Police were called and the accused was located just before 2am this morning. He has been charged with 1 count of assault causing bodily harm and 5 counts of breaching his recognizance. At the time of the assault the accused was bound by conditions not to attend at the victim’s residence, not to molest, harass or interfere with her, not to communicate with her, not to consume alcohol and to reside with his surety. All of which were breached. The accused will be appearing in court this morning and the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

2) City Police arrested a 26 year old male yesterday morning for a domestic related situation. It is believed that just after 3am on the 8th of August, the accused attended at the east end residence of his ex-girlfriend. When the female would not let him in he forced his way in and damaged the door frame in doing so. Once inside the accused yelled at the victim and damaged her phone by throwing it to the floor. The accused then left the residence by cab and was located by police a short time later at a relative’s east end residence. He has been charged with 1 count of unlawfully in a dwelling house, 2 counts of mischief under $5000 and 1 count of fail to appear court. He is scheduled to appear in bail court this morning.

Theft, Stolen Property, Threatening & Resist Arrest

25 year old Joshua Smith of no fixed address has been charged with 1 count of theft under $5000, 1 count of possession of property obtained by crime, 1 count of resisting arrest, 1 count of threatening death or bodily harm and 1 count of escape custody. It is believed that the accused on the 9th of August entered a vehicle on Albert Street East and stole a wallet. The accused left the scene on a bicycle but was located a short while later by police but fled the area on foot. The accused was located a short while later hiding in a vehicle on Hughes Street. While being taken into custody the accused threatened to assault the officers and resisted the arrest. The accused was brought down to the court house to be held until his bail hearing. While being held at the court house the accused escape the custody of officers and fled on foot but was eventually apprehended a block away on Albert Street.
