Five face drug trafficking charges following search warrant

Officers seized suspected cocaine, psilocybin, Xanax, fentanyl, oxycodone, and Canadian currency

Sault police have laid charges against five people in a drug trafficking investigation. Police report that $3,950 worth of drugs were seized as well as $6,300 in Canadian currency. SooToday received the following news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service regarding the incident:

On June 19, 2020 officers with the Crime Suppression Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit and Emergency Services Unit arrested 33-year-old Elizabeth Gilbert, 32-year-old Jessie Hachey, [Charge withdrawn], 31-year-old Jason Pine and 24-year-old Allysia Solomon for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

At 6:26 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 0-100 block of Anita Boulevard. Upon entering the residence, the five accused were located and arrested. During a subsequent search of the area of arrest, officers located quantities of what is believed to be controlled substances, including one ounce of cocaine, one ounce of psilocybin (mushrooms), 96 alprazolam (Xanax) pills, less than a gram of fentanyl, three oxycodone pills and $6,300 in Canadian currency. The estimated street value of the substances seized is $3,950.

All of the accused are charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. They are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 31, 2020.
