Police say a motorist has been charged after a 911 call reported an erratic driver involved in two collisions near McNabb Street and Black Road – one with a light pole and the other with another vehicle.

The report of the collisions came in at around 2 p.m. on Friday.

Police said the vehicle drove away from both collisions. No physical injuries were reported.

Officers were dispatched and located the vehicle, which was visibly damaged, in a parking lot in the 600 block of MacDonald Avenue, the Sault Police Service said in a news release.

The driver was still sitting in the driver’s seat, police said. Upon speaking with the driver, officers suspected they were impaired by alcohol.

Police said officers read a breath demand to the driver, who made several unsuccessful attempts to provide a sample into an approved screening device.

Police said the accused "did not provide a sufficient breath sample" and they were arrested.

Kelly Lannigan, 34, is charged with:

  • Failure to Comply with Demand
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Fail to Stop After Accident

Lannigan was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on April 8.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
