Early morning crash leads to weapons, impaired charges

Collision happened near Blake Avenue and McNabb Street; search of the vehicle turned up a prohibited knife, brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia with residue, police say

An early morning 911 call for a car crash near Blake Avenue and McNabb Street led to a number of charges against a 40-year-old driver.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to the collision at around 2 a.m. today. After speaking to the driver, police say the officers had reason to believe he was impaired.

A further search of the vehicle turned up a prohibited knife, brass knuckles, and drug paraphernalia with residue, police say.

Justin Fabbro is charged with:

  • operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug
  • failure or refusal to comply with a demand
  • unauthorized possession of a weapon (x2)
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • possession of a controlled substance
  • failure to comply with probation order (x4)

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
