On Aug. 22, 2017, shortly after 5:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a vehicle in a ditch on Kensington Road, in Town of Desbarats.  

Investigation determined a "right hand drive" vehicle drove into a ditch. The vehicle wasn't equipped with a mechanical or electrical signal device that was prominently displayed on the rear of the vehicle. The driver could not produce an insurance card for the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Mathew Knight, 34 years of age from Echo Bay, Ont., was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • No sign - Right hand drive vehicle, contrary to section 63 of the Highway Traffic Act; and with
  • Fail to surrender insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The driver did not sustain any injuries and there was no damage to the vehicle.
