A person has been charged following a collision at the intersection of Wellington Street East and Pine Street shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service spokesperson Lincoln Louttit tells SooToday that a red SUV was travelling southbound on Pine Street when it was struck by a silver pickup truck that was travelling east on Wellington Street East.

Sault Fire Services attended the scene in order to extricate the driver of the SUV.

The driver of the SUV was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the collision.

An investigation by city police determined that the driver of the silver pickup had failed to stop for a red light.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has charged a 39-year-old male with fail to stop for a red light as a result of the collision.
