Cops find weapons, ammo 'scattered' around Base Line home

56-year-old remains in custody after police allege a 911 call about uttering threats led officers to six improperly stored firearms

A local man is facing a long list of weapons charges after Sault Police were called to an address on Base Line Road Saturday night.

At around 8 p.m. on Feb. 10, someone phoned 911 to report threats being made by a person who “had access to several firearms,” says a news release issued today by Sault Police.

Officers were dispatched to the suspect’s home in the 1500 block of Base Line Road, where the accused was arrested “without incident.”

“A subsequent search of the residence located six improperly stored firearms and various types of ammunition scattered throughout the residence, all of which were seized,” the news release states.

Donald Laroue, 56, is charged with: 

  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm x6
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm x6
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x7
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x7
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking x7

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Laroue is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
