Complaint of man carrying firearm leads to slew of charges

43-year-old Sault man also found to be in possession of knives and pepper spray - faces six counts of carrying concealed weapons or ammunition

On Jan. 18, 2019 officers with the Emergency Services Unit, Patrol Services Division and Break and Enter Unit of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 43-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie for firearms offences.

Just before 1 p.m. officers responded to a call for service regarding a male carrying a firearm in the area of Macdonald Avenue and Pim Street. Officers located the accused walking in the area. 

He was found to be in possession of a concealed loaded 40 caliber handgun and three additional magazines full of ammunition. The accused was also found to be in possession of two different knives and two canisters of pepper spray.

He was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with various offences including;

  • One count of possession of a restricted firearm,
  • Two counts of careless use of a firearm or ammunition,
  • Three counts of possession of a prohibited weapon,
  • Six counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Six counts of carrying a concealed weapon or ammunition,
  • Two counts of failing to deliver a firearm or ammunition to a peace officer; and,
  • One count of possession of a restricted firearm contrary to licence conditions

He was held for W.A.S.H. court.
