A local man is facing impaired charges after an incident that took place earlier this week.

In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie Police say they responded to a call around 9:32 a.m. yesterday of a driver asleep in a vehicle at the intersection of Wawanosh Avenue and Great Northern Road.

When they arrived, police spoke to the driver and determined that he was impaired by drugs, which was confirmed when he failed a roadside drug test.

While searching the vehicle, police say they found the accused to be in possession of a substance believed to be fentanyl and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

As a result, Christopher Michelin, 44, was arrested and charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 5, 2021.
