UPDATE: Car that smashed through fence was stolen, police say

Sault Police say the vehicle that crashed into a fence on Tuesday had been reported stolen earlier the same day; 30-year-old facing charges

Wednesday 3:10 p.m. update:

In a press release sent Wednesday, Sault Police say 30-year-old William Wynne was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and several other offences after responding to a call for a vehicle crashing through a fence.

The 911 call came in at around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday in response to the collision that occurred at an address on Ferris Avenue at MacDonald Avenue that caused 'significant damage' to the property.

Investigation revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that morning from the parking lot of a business in the 200 block of Great Northern Road, said the news release.

Officers and the canine unit tracked Wynne from the scene and made an arrest in the 200 block of Albert Street East.

Wynne was charged with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Mischief Over $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order

He will appear in court  on April 8.

Sault Police have laid a charge after the deck and part of a fence at a Ferris Avenue home was smashed on Tuesday after a car collided with it from MacDonald Avenue.

Police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit told SooToday an arrest has been made in relation to the incident and more information will be made available on Wednesday.

A black Hyundai Elantra was removed by tow truck from the scene of the collision at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
