29-year-old male faces assault charges after argument with girlfriend

The accused allegedly choked his girlfriend before damaging property inside her residence

On Feb. 24, 2019, officers with the Patrol Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 29-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie for assault.

It is alleged that around 6:00 a.m. the accused engaged in a verbal argument with his girlfriend. The argument escalated and the accused assaulted the victim by choking her. The accused then caused damage to property inside the residence. The victim attempted to leave and the accused stopped her from doing so.

The victim eventually left the residence on foot. Soon after the accused observed the victim walking and drove a motor vehicle towards her at a high rate of speed, nearly colliding with her.

Police were called and took the accused into custody. He has been charged with one count of assault, one count of forcible confinement, one count of mischief, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was held for bail court.
