New life down on the farms (16 photos)

Donna Schell visited five area farms to bring photos of baby animals to our readers

It's baby animal time in the rural areas around the Sault.

Donna Schell visited five St. Josephs Island Farms to photograph baby animals for us.

An interesting fact she shared with us is that some farmers name their animals, others number them while the majority do neither.

They name newly arrived calves on the Coulter farm, she said.

"This year, calves born on the Coulter farm will be named after Blue Jays baseball players," Schell reported. "Last year they were named after characters in the show, Supernatural."

They are expecting six calves at that farm.
