GALLERY: Northern pickleballers serve up a fun weekend

More than 100 players from across the north competed at the Pickleball Ontario North Region Championship inside the John Rhodes Community Centre this weekend

Pickleball players from across the north have been spending a fun weekend inside the John Rhodes Community Centre for the Sault’s first-ever Pickleball Ontario North Region Championship.

Soo Pickleball officially became a recognized affiliated club of Pickleball Canada and Pickleball Ontario last year, which provided the club with an opportunity to host the qualifier in town.

Deemed a historic weekend for the local pickleball scene, the regional tournament is played in a round robin format with a single elimination medal round. Winners will travel to Collingwood next month for the Championship Series Finals where they will face pickleball players from around the province.

Weekend action kicked off on Friday when members of Sault Police and Sault Fire faced off in a “paddle battle.” Then on Saturday, competitors hit the courts for men’s and women’s doubles, while Sunday featured mixed doubles.

Donations to KidSport were accepted at the door.
