Beautiful, busy birds (24 photos)

Be it a stop-over for a migratory bird or nesting for local birds, there's plenty of activity to be seen and heard in the area right now

The 2021 Spring Bird Migration is well underway and we are now in the prime weeks of breeding for many species locally.

Many species pass through the Algoma region often stopping for rest and fuel prior to moving on often flying through the night to points beyond where their summer breeding grounds exist. While others return to breed in the area.

This means that often during these journeys we will be given the opportunity to view some rare species to the area that we would not ordinarily find any other time which outlines the importance of taking care of our wetland habitats.

The Sault Naturalists is one of the groups that maintain some of the viewing platforms in the area that help make some of these sightings more accessible to the general public. They have been looking for support in upgrading the Echo Bay platform. If you feel you may be able to help you can find them here
