An announcement made on Tuesday for an upcoming concert at the GFL Memorial Gardens is the first of a number of upcoming events the city hopes will jump start the local entertainment sector as restrictions around COVID-19 wind down.

”Aside from the Soo Greyhound events, yes today’s announcement is the first event that has gone on sale since COVID hit us in March of 2020,” said Jennifer Arbour, business and administrative coordinator in the city’s Community Development and Enterprise Services division in an email on Wednesday.

Arbour said other events are currently being planned for the summer and fall and into 2023 and the city hopes to be able to announce them in the near future.

“We have had and continue to have multiple discussions with promoters in which we are planning for future concerts and events here at the GFL Memorial Gardens.”

Celtic Illusion, the modern Irish dance and magic stage show, created, choreographed, and starring Anthony Street (Lord of the Dance) will make a stop in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the tour go on sale on Feb. 4 and can be purchased online.

All events at the GFL Memorial Gardens will be subject to any provincial COVID-19 guidelines or restrictions that are in place at the time of the event, she added.

“We are eager to safely bring back entertainment to Sault Ste. Marie,” said Arbour.
