WATCH: Trudeau gives update on development of contact tracing mobile app

Trudeau said the app will be available across Canada in the coming weeks

Update:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today that the Canadian government and partners are working on a mobile application to inform people if they've been exposed to COVID-19.

He said it will be available across Canada in the coming weeks.

Trudeau emphasized that the app will be completely voluntary, but will be most effective when as many people as possible use it. He also stressed that location services will not be used, and data will be uploaded anonymously to protect the privacy of Canadians.

The app is being tested in Ontario, and the prime minister said Premier Doug Ford will have more details in his address this afternoon.
