Mayoral and council candidates to appear at public forums

Mark your calendar for an opportunity to see and hear our local municipal candidates together in two public forums.

SooToday, along with Algoma University and the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, are presenting the Sault Ste. Marie Mayoral and Ward Councillor Candidate Forums on Oct. 18 and 19. 

Each of the forums will take place in the Council Chambers at the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre, and be live-streamed by SooToday. The estimated duration is three hours each night.

The forums are open to the public however questions will not be taken from the gallery. 

Pre-established questions to the candidates will be delivered by the political science and law and justice students from Algoma University.

The schedule for the two evenings is as follows: 

  • Oct. 18, 2022: 
    • 6 p.m. - Ward 1
    • 7 p.m. - Ward 2
    • 8 p.m. - Ward 3
  • Oct. 19, 2022:
    • 6 p.m. - Ward 4
    • 7 p.m. - Ward 5
    • 8 p.m. - Mayoral

The 2022 Municipal election takes place on Monday, Oct. 24. 

The city will elect one mayor, and 10 councillors. In addition, voters will elect school board trustees. 

The certified list of candidates is available online.

Eligible electors can utilize the city's Voter Services Tool to verify if they are on the list to vote and ensure their information is correct.
