Update to Savoy’s Jewellers robbery

On the 12th of January, Investigation Services officers conducted a search warrant at 183 Albert Street East, Unit 4.

During the search, officers recovered a handgun and blank ammunition believed to have been used in the Savoy’s Jewellers robbery on the 11th of January. 

Officers found that it was a blank firing gun and was not capable of firing a projectile.

The accused, Michael Dustin Burgess remains in custody, charged with one count of robbery with a weapon and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

He is scheduled for a bail hearing on Wednesday the 18th of January.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to advise the public that the offense of robbery includes the use of an imitation handgun.
