OPP investigate Maki Lake Road grass fire

SAULT STE. MARIE -  Two fires have been investigated by Sault Ste. Marie OPP in the past two days.

One occurred on May 22, 2012 at approximately 11 p.m. on Old Garden River Road on the Batchewana First Nation.

A vehicle being driven on private property caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire.

There is no further investigation.

AWERES TWP - On May 23, 2012 at approximately 6 a.m. the Aweres Fire Department and OPP were called to a grass fire in a bush area on Maki Lake Road in Aweres Township.

Upon the Fire Department’s arrival several males were observed running from the area.

It appears the fire was caused by those involved burning the casing off of a piece of copper wire.

The fire was extinguished.

The investigation is continuing.
