As reported earlier by SooToday.com, a young woman was injured yesterday while in attendance at the Campbell Amusements Midway.

The incident occurred when an object fell from The Zipper and struck the woman, who was watching the ride, in the head.

We've since been in touch with Wilson Lee, director of stakeholder relations for the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), who told us the ride had undergone an inspection in March of this year.

"I spoke to our inspector and he's confirming the incident," Lee told us. "He received a report last night that a piece of a track spacer came off the ride and struck a patron in the forehead causing a small gash. Because it was a minor incident and the cause of the incident is known, an investigation will not be opened. According to our inspector, a certified mechanic has replaced the parts and the ride has been made safe again."

Under the Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000, the TSSA's Amusement Device Safety program is responsible for regulating the safety of Ontario's amusement rides, including roller coasters, Ferris wheels, water slides, go-karts and inflatable/bounce devices.

According to the TSSA website, the Amusement Device Safety "program team review and register amusement ride designs, conduct inspections and license devices when they conform to the Act, Regulations, and adopted codes and standards."
