Traffic stop nets 30lbs of marijuana and $45,000 in cash

MATTAWA - On January 17, 2011 at approximately 12:15 p.m., members of the Mattawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Valois Drive in Mattawa. 

As a result of the traffic stop, police seized 30.4 pounds (lbs) of marijuana and an estimated $45,000 in cash.

The vehicle was headed from Ottawa to Sault Ste Marie.

The street value of the drugs is estimated at $275,492.

Members of the Drug Enforcement Unit and Asset Forfeiture Unit have been called in to assist with the investigation.

Paul Faubert, 31 years of age from Sault Ste Marie, has been arrested and detained in custody pending a bail hearing today in North Bay court.

The accused has been charged with:
    •    Possession schedule II cannabis marijuana - over 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  
    •    Trafficking schedule II cannabis marijuana over 3 kilograms contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  
    •    Possession for the purpose schedule II over 3 kilograms contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  
    •    Possession property obtained by crime Over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
