One new COVID-related death reported, hospitalizations increase by 2 in Friday update: APH

Algoma Public Heatlh is reporting one new COVID-related death in Friday's update. 

This brings the total number of deaths in the region to 39 since the beginning of the pandemic, 19 of these which occurred in 2022. 

The number of active COVID-19 cases is up by 12 in the latest update from Algoma Public Health.

APH is also reporting an increase in hospitalized patients with COVID as well with 10 people in hospital as of Friday afternoon.

There are currently four ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 in Algoma.

The number of confirmed cases in the region rose by 66 on Friday to a total of 5,707, of which 3,503 cases were confirmed in 2022.

The number of resolved cases is up by 54 to 5,320.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
