World class jazz featured during Downtown Street Mixer (16 photos)

Brownman Ali and Arecibo performed a free show as part of the Downtown Association street party

Among the vendors, face painters, displays and street games including badminton and giant chess, checkers and Jenga, a little jazz quartet was set up in front of Loplops' storefront.

It was acclaimed trumpeter Brownman Ali with Arecibo who performed a free show during the Downtown Association's Street Mixer event Saturday afternoon on Queen Street East.

Brownman – who has worked with the likes of Jay-z, Missy Elliot, Mos Def, Quincy Jones and Paul Simon – is in town hosting a weekend of music at Loplops for the three-day Electro-Jazz Fest.

The festival continues tonight at 651 Queen Street East with the Brownman Electryc Trio + 1. Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m., Brownman will present a tribute to jazz-funk great Herbie Hancock followed by an evening performance with local favourites, My Son the Hurricane.
