Three Greyhounds selected on day two of NHL Draft (update)

After rookie forward Zach Senyshyn was selected in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft on Friday night by the Boston Bruins, three more Greyhounds were selected on day two of the event on Saturday.

The New Jersey Devils played a role in two members of the Greyhounds being selected on Saturday by selecting Sault product Blake Speers in the third round and then defenceman Colton White in round four.

The Minnesota Wild then selected rookie Greyhounds defenceman Gustav Bouramman in the seventh round (201st overall).

For Speers, the Sault Ste. Marie native finished his sophomore season with 24 goals and 67 points in 57 games.

The Devils were one of a number of teams that Speers interviewed with at the NHL combine in June.

“I had a really good interview with them,” Speers told NJ Advance Media. “I had a really good feeling about it so I put them in my group of teams I figured I could go to today.”

Speers added that there is an excitement after having one of his teammate also selected by the Devils.

“You don’t go into the draft expecting to get picked by the same team as one of your teammates,” Speers said.

“I’m very excited to go to camp with him (White) in the coming weeks,” Speers also said.

Also in his second season with the Greyhounds in 2014-15, White scored six goals and 22 points in 67 games.

Bouramman, selected in the Canadian Hockey League’s Import Draft last summer, scored five goals and 44 points in 67 games in his first season with the Greyhounds.
