He was anticipated by many to be the first member of the Soo Greyhounds selected in the 2015 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Going in the first round was something that wasn’t anticipated for Zach Senyshyn but the rookie Greyhound was selected 15th overall by the Boston Bruins on Friday night.

Senyshyn was ranked 38th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in their final player rankings in April while International Scouting Services – an independent scouting service – had the Greyhound ranked 39th. HockeyProspect, another independent service, had Senyshyn ranked 57th.

“It’s absolutely incredible,” Senyshyn told the Ottawa Sun. “It’s such an honour, especially a team like the Bruins with such history and so much honour. I can’t say enough about it.”

“I’m really ecstatic right now,” Senyshyn added.

In his first full season with the Greyhounds, the 18-year-old scored 26 goals and 45 points in 66 games. He added four goals and seven points in 14 playoff games as the Greyhounds advanced to the Western Conference final.

The draft will continue on Saturday with round two through seven, beginning at 10 a.m. at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.
