SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - Thank you to Possamai Construction & Aggregates for donating labour, machinery and the expertise required to remove a concrete barrier situated on the Albert Street side of James Street.

The barrier, located directly in front of the Soup Kitchen Community Centre, posed health and safety concerns for staff, clients and especially children accessing Anna Marinelli playground and the parking lot on the west side of James Street.

Several community leaders attended a brief ceremony on October 19, 2011 to acknowledge the generosity of Pat Possamai and Possamai Construction & Aggregates.

Attendees included: Pat Possamai, the Honorable Ray Stortini, Honorable Ron Irwin, Angelo Bumbacco, Tony Celli, President of G. Marconi Society, Helen Calvelli, Elettra Marconi Society, the late Mike Sanzosti, past Councillor and Mayor, along with Calna McGoldrick, Soup Kitchen Administrator.

Civic officials included: Joe Fratesi, CAO, Larry Girardi, Commissioner of Public Works and Transportation and Steve Waite, acting Superintendent of Public Works and Transportation (See photo).

It is anticipated that the north concrete wall will come down next year to open the area to pedestrian traffic.
