Sault boy found dead near Parry Sound

A 14-year-old boy from Sault Ste. Marie has been found dead in the Parry Sound area. Matthew Huluk walked away from a home on Bancroft Drive in Sudbury on Friday at about 10 p.m. wearing only a T-shirt, pajama pants and a pair of crocs.

A 14-year-old boy from Sault Ste. Marie has been found dead in the Parry Sound area.

Matthew Huluk walked away from a home on Bancroft Drive in Sudbury on Friday at about 10 p.m. wearing only a T-shirt, pajama pants and a pair of crocs.

The temperature outside hovered just above the freezing mark and it had been lightly raining off and on all day.

Sudbury police immediately called for a search-and-rescue operation in the area by air and on the ground.

They also appealed to the public for help to find the boy.

He was spotted in the area of Bancroft Drive and Weller Street the next day, dressed in a red hoodie and jeans.

Police responded to the tip but he had left the area before they could intercept him.

At that time they also called off the ground search and but continued the air search and to appeal to the public for assistance in finding Huluk.

Sudbury Police issued the following news release late this morning:

************************* On October 24, 2011, missing person Matthew Huluk was located deceased in the Parry Sound area.

There is an ongoing investigation by Parry Sound OPP into his death.

At this time, there is no evidence to indicate that he was a victim of foul play.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating missing person Matthew Huluk, 14 years.

Huluk left a residence on Bancroft Drive shortly after 10 p.m. on October 21.

He was last seen wearing PJ bottoms, a white t-shirt and crocs.

He is described as being 5’5”, 90 lbs with medium-length brown hair and brown eyes.

There is some concern for Huluk’s well-being due to the cold overnight temperatures and his lack of suitable clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 222-TIPS, online or by texting TIPSUD and the information to CRIMES (274637).
