Mary Lynn Riberdy was the recipient of the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year Award, sponsored by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.

As a volunteer-based organization, the Chamber has many unsung heroes every year - people who dedicate their time to special projects, events or programs they believe will benefit the business community as a whole.

Initiated in 1985, the Volunteer of the Year Award was designed to recognize an individual whose time, commitment and contribution to the Chamber over the years, or during the past year, has been outstanding.

During her time as a volunteer for the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, Mary Lynn has proven to be both committed and a natural leader with a wonderful insight into the needs of our membership.

In the past 24 months, Mary Lynn has been instrumental is steering several new Chamber events including our first speed networking event, the 2011 Travel and Leisure Expo, and our Blackberry 101 workshop.

She also leant her planning expertise to the Chamber’s new office grand opening celebration task force.

Many will recognize Mary Lynn, not just from her work with the Chamber, but from Rotary, where she helped plan Dragon Boat Races (receiving the ‘Rotarian of the Year Award’ in 2000-2001 for this work), the Rotary Leadership Conference, Trip of the Month and her assistance with Rotary Fest.

She sits on the Board of Directors for the local chapter of the TD Friends of the Environment, whose activities include visiting schools with the Canadian Peregrine Falcon Foundation and TD Tree Days.

The Chamber is powered by its membership and by the many volunteers that take the time to assist and guide the organization.

Thank you to Mary Lynn for taking on the challenge, and congratulations on being named the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year.
