A number of U.S.-based media outlets - including CBS News, CNN and the Los Angeles Times - are reporting tonight that singer Michael Jackson died this afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Confirmation has been provided by the Los Angeles coroner.

The 50-year-old pop star was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home.

He was given CPR and rushed by ambulance to UCLA Medical Center.
