************************* City confirms fatal accident

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - On behalf of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Chief Administrative Officer Joseph M. Fratesi regretfully confirms that a municipal employee sustained fatal injuries at the municipal landfill site yesterday, Thursday, April 16, when struck by a crane owned and operated by a private contractor which tipped over.

The Ministry of Labour, Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the coroner’s office are currently investigating.

The thoughts and prayers of the Mayor and City Council and all fellow municipal employees are with the family, friends and co-workers of James Vecchio at this tragic time.

Flags at municipal facilities will continue to fly at half mast until the time of the funeral.
