SEARCHMONT SKI ASSOCIATION

************************* Searchmont Ski Association Inc. (SSAI) purchases Searchmont Resort

The purchase of Searchmont Resort by Searchmont Ski Association Inc. (SSAI) from Chicago-based businessman Jack McDermott is complete.

David Hornstein, SSAI media contact states: "This is an exciting time for SSAI and our community. Now with community based, non-profit ownership, we can continue our efforts towards the long-term sustainability of the Resort as well as developing the long-term vision of making Searchmont a premiere-ranked regional training and recreation facility."

"We anticipate a bustling season,” states Hornstein. “There is something for everyone with new beginner, student and children’s promotions and programming, diverse events, and entertainment offered in conjunction with our existing education and Snow School programming.”

“We are continuing to follow our current long-term solution for the resort’s operations including the development of off-season activity,” says Hornstein. “One of our goals is to promote a healthy lifestyle to children, youth and their families by providing all-season experienced-based adventure, especially “winter embracing” activities.”

Searchmont Resort is an important resource for the city of Sault Ste. Marie and area.

The resort is the second-largest tourist draw in the area bringing in millions of tourism dollars, employs 150 staff, attracts doctors and residents looking to relocate, sustains local business, and enriches healthy lifestyles for all ages.

“It is imperative that community support continues to ensure the long-term viability of the resort.” says Hornstein.

Through the purchase of season passes, Our Mountain memberships and ‘Have a Seat’ sponsorships, there are many opportunities to support the resort.

These efforts are ongoing with the deadline for early season pass pricing set for September 30.

Hornstein emphasizes: "Our thanks goes out to those in our community who have joined us thus far in our efforts to keep Searchmont Resort open. We encourage past supporters to help us continue to move forward. We would also like to thank Jack McDermott, former owner of Searchmont Resort for his continuous support and cooperation."
