Downtown watering-hole faces demolition

The former Algoma Hotel at the corner of Queen and Bruce may soon be nothing more than rubble. The City has taken over the property using the Municipal Tax Sales Act and on Monday City Council will be asked to approve demolition of the structure.

The former Algoma Hotel at the corner of Queen and Bruce may soon be nothing more than rubble.

The City has taken over the property using the Municipal Tax Sales Act and on Monday City Council will be asked to approve demolition of the structure.

"Regardless of the future use of the site it is staff's feeling that this building should be removed to prevent further deterioration of the building and also to prevent people breaking into the locked building," says City Solicitor Lorie Bottos.
