The following statement was released today by David Orazietti, district president for the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation:

*************************** Public Statement:

Thursday February 27, 2003

OSSTF - Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation District President - David Orazietti

At the secondary level we strongly support the regulations of the Student Protection Act because it increases the legal obligation of teachers to report incidents of abuse to both Principals and the College of Teachers.

We do not want teachers in front of students who put students at risk.

OSSTF participated in making recommendations designed to protect students, which were incorporated into the Robins Report.

As a federation we are continuing to raise awareness on issues of student protection and promote a safe school environment.
