Bruce Mines residents assist in evacuation of seniors' home

SooToday district reporter Donna Schell talked with people who were in contact with residents of the home and shares their story below.

A resident of Hilton Beach was contacted by the director of Light Haven Christian Home about 10:25 p.m. on Saturday.
 
She was informed that a client of hers, along with the rest of residents of the home, were safe and in Thessalon after having been evacuated from the Town of the Bruce Mines due to an ammonia leak at the town’s arena.

Attempts to get a bus were unsuccessful and volunteers stepped up to the plate.

According to the director the OPP were very impressed with the number of volunteers.

When residents of the home and other people evacuated from their homes in Bruce Mines may be able to return to their homes is unknown at this time.

Volunteer nursing and regular staff are on stand by assisting those residence with the transition to the Thessalon Bible Chapel.

The director said residents of the Light Haven Christian Home in Bruce Mines were safe and that it was a little exciting for a while.
